Jacline Abray-Nyman

For more than fifteen years, Jacline Abray-Nyman has built an impressive track record in the fields of marketing higher education and business strategy. As a management consultant, Jacline currently works with organizations on marketing and strategic business planning, in addition to pursuing doctoral studies at the Schulich School of Business, York University (Fall 2004). Prior to this, Jacline was vice-president of fundraising and donor relations, as part of the York University Foundation’s executive management group (2002-04). In that role, Jacline linked strategy with leadership toward achieving the Foundation’s goals. Part of the ‘start-up’ team, Jacline helped create the Foundation’s new business model and actively led the fundraising team toward their first campaign.

Prior to joining the York University Foundation, Jacline was part of the senior management team at the Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary. As their Director of Development and External Relations, she created a comprehensive external relations program encompassing alumni and corporate relations, fundraising, marketing, media and communications. Jacline directed campaign efforts toward raising significant funds aimed at the recruitment and retention of top caliber professors and students for the Haskayne School of Business, recognized as a Top-100 business school in the world (January 2002). Jacline also led the team responsible for naming the business school in honour of generous philanthropist Richard F. Haskayne (May 2002). Her leadership in re-branding the School resulted in award-winning publications and events.

Before joining the business school, Jacline delivered strategic planning in fundraising and communications as Director of Development with the University of Calgary (1997-99) and Director of Advancement Services (1994-97) and Manager of Student Recruitment at the University of Ottawa (1992-94). She worked in private and public sector business administration and marketing from 1987–1992.

An active conference speaker and professional development advocate, Jacline has spoken on the topics of accountability, strategic business planning, major gift fundraising and market research. She currently serves as a volunteer on the Board of Directors for Toronto’s Centre for Social Innovation and as Chair of the Peter F. Drucker Canadian Foundation for Nonprofit Innovation. She has also served as Corporate Secretary, Chair of Communications, and Editor of Ensemble for the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE). Jacline has volunteered as a Big-Sister Mentor in the Calgary community and has been a Director of the Calgary Chapter Board for the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). In 1996 Jacline was recognized by her peers with the CCAE’s Rising Star Award and again, in 2002, with one of CCAE’s highest honours, the Distinguished Service Award. Jacline holds a Bachelor of Administration from the University of Ottawa and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Calgary.
