Catalyzing community is a dance between the organic and the instrumental. Communities work only when they are driven by the real needs of those who form them, yet they rarely emerge without a spark of leadership from a passionate few. Doing this dance is important work.

Our approach combines measured amounts of the ingredients needed to spark lasting communities – listening, catalyzing, telling and doing.

We know that success depends on a balance of passion and process, trust and planning, hard work and smart decisions.

Whether we are helping to start a new partnership amongst civil society organizations or writing a business plan for a social enterprise, listening to community needs and building a culturally appropriate infrastructure for community to thrive sets the work of Commons apart from others.
